How to apply for Invalidity Pension

Check you meet the conditions first — who can get Invalidity Pension. Then use the official form below.

Official forms

These are the forms linked from the official page for Invalidity Pension. Read the name carefully — some payments have separate forms for a first claim, a repeat claim or a supporting medical report.

You may also be able to apply online through MyWelfare, which is usually faster than posting a form.

What you will need

  • Your PPS number.
  • Proof of identity and, usually, proof of address.
  • Any supporting documents the form names — medical reports, payslips or bank statements, depending on the payment.
  • Details of your PRSI record are checked by the Department — you do not need to supply them yourself.

After you apply

  • Processing takes time. If you are left without income while you wait, you can apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance in the meantime.
  • If you are refused, you can appeal — but you have only 60 days from the date on the decision letter.
  • Tell the Department if your circumstances change, as it can affect what you are entitled to.
