Who can get Farm Assist
- You must be a farmer aged 18 to 65 who is farming land in the State.
- You must pass the means test.
- You do not need to be available for or seeking other work.
The Farm Assist means test
Means-tested on farm income, with disregards for children and for income from certain schemes. Your home and the land you farm are not counted as capital.
How your savings are assessed
All means-tested payments except Disability Allowance, Carer's Allowance and Supplementary Welfare Allowance.

Capital means your savings, investments, stocks, shares and any property other than your own home. Your own home is never assessed. Capital belonging to a spouse, civil partner or cohabitant is included.
Things people get caught by
- Unlike Jobseeker's Allowance, you do not have to be available for or seeking work.
- Income from the Rural Social Scheme and certain agri-environment schemes is treated differently in the means test.
