How to apply for Child Benefit

What you will need
- Your PPS number.
- Proof of identity and, usually, proof of address.
- Any supporting documents the form names: medical reports, payslips or bank statements, depending on the payment.
- Details of your PRSI record are checked by the Department. You do not need to supply them yourself.

After you apply
- Processing takes time. If you are left without income while you wait, you can apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance in the meantime.
- If you are refused, you can appeal, but you have only 60 days from the date on the decision letter.
- Tell the Department if your circumstances change, as it can affect what you are entitled to.
