How to apply for Additional Needs Payment
Check you meet the conditions first — who can get Additional Needs Payment. Then use the official form below.
Official forms
These are the forms linked from the official page for Additional Needs Payment. Read the name carefully — some payments have separate forms for a first claim, a repeat claim or a supporting medical report.
- Application for an Additional Needs Payment
Hosted on gov.ie
- Application form for help with funeral costs (SWA5)
Hosted on gov.ie
You may also be able to apply online through MyWelfare, which is usually faster than posting a form.
What you will need
- Your PPS number.
- Proof of identity and, usually, proof of address.
- Any supporting documents the form names — medical reports, payslips or bank statements, depending on the payment.
- Details of your income and savings, because this payment is means-tested.
Where to send it
Additional Needs Payments are decided by a Community Welfare Officer at your local Intreo Centre. The official page lists no central address. Find your local Intreo Centre.
After you apply
- Processing takes time. If you are left without income while you wait, you can apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance in the meantime.
- If you are refused, you can appeal — but you have only 60 days from the date on the decision letter.
- Tell the Department if your circumstances change, as it can affect what you are entitled to.
